Who May Apply
Individual Artist who currently live in the Seattle area are eligible. We do not consider applications by galleries, curators, or organizations.
What We're Looking For
We seek quality, original art by any Seattle-area artist. Given the subjective nature of art, are happy to consider all qualifying applications; please consider the following, which are features of our most successful posters:
- High artistic quality
- An image that reproduces well as a poster image
- A theme of public spectacle or community
- Work that is affordable
- Work whose central elements may be used for limited-edition merchandise
- Reputation of the artist through proven achievement or strong “emerging artist” credentials
- Work that is not yet sold: We prefer to purchase the piece, although a license from the artist to use the image may be considered
Usage and Compensation
In addition to the limited-edition pressing, the poster art may also be featured on a small number of t-shirts or other official Festival merchandise and as part of the 2012 Mayor's Arts Awards and promotion for that event, which takes place the Friday of Bumbershoot weekend.
One Reel prefers to purchase the work, with limited license to use it on the poster and a small number of t-shirts or other promotional items. A license from the artist, if the original is not available, may be considered.
Any Seattle-area resident may apply by following the guidelines on this application One Reel also solicits nominations directly through community outlets (our Program Advisory Board, other curators, galleries, arts organizations and institutions). We also consider artists seen at exhibitions around town.
The Fine Arts Poster is selected by One Reel's programming Department, with the input of community advisors.
We may commission artwork based on an artist's portfolio or a related piece, but strongly prefer that the image exist an be available for sale to One Reel.
