Bumbershoot's Comedy, AKA Why My Job Is The Best

I know that my job is the best. It’s just plain fact at this point. You could even put it in my wikipedia entry, that’s how factual it is. And honestly, I’m just happy to have advanced beyond my previous employment in pizza delivery. Let me give you a short breakdown of Bumbershoot vs. pizza delivery work: At Bumbershoot, I get to sit at my desk and watch comedy videos while I drink free coffee from the kitchen. At the pizza place where I worked last summer, one time somebody’s dog bit me, and then the customer who owned the dog laughed at me. It’s not hard to figure out which one of the two summer jobs has been more fun.

So like I said, now I’m working for the ‘Shoot. I’ve been investigating our comedy lineup lately (which involves watching a ton of standup videos of the comedians at my desk – this is something I do at home, but here I get college credit for doing it. (Again, my job is the best.) In case you didn’t know about it, Bumbershoot is offering a new comedy pass system, wherein many lucky ticket holders get a comedy show pass that guarantees entry into one comedy event per day. If one is not enough for you, you can head to the lines for standby, but at least once a day with that pass, you’re so in. With that knowledge, it was necessary for me to ramp up my comedy research, to ensure the best use of the new system.

This research really shifted into high gear today when I was watching clips of Hannibal Buress on Live at Gotham. I’m really excited to see this guy at Bumbershoot; he made me almost fall out of my chair. That’s saying a lot, considering I watched the clip at about ten in the morning, without my morning coffee.

After I clicked around the ol’ ‘net a little more, I found a fake news story about the guitar comic Nick Thune. I’ve seen him a few times, and both times he stole the show, but I was not prepared for this human interest piece about a man “helping” his blind roommate. He is a hero in his community (sort of). I made a point of forcing everyone within six feet of me to watch it, perhaps so they wouldn’t feel too bad about not having the best job ever, like me.

And my goodness, Zach Galifianakis (hard to spell, hard to say). The man has a beard, sometimes a piano, and the ability to make me snort with laughter constantly. Seriously, at this point I can’t believe people still even sit next to me. Between his vodka commercial (where he invents a kind of martini that’s half cake frosting) and his ridiculous interview of Jimmy Kimmel (where he takes his own shoes off and doesn’t listen to a word Kimmel says). I think Zach Galifianakis has the incredibly-awkward-comedy market totally cornered.

So now that Bumbershoot has the aforementioned awesome comedy pass system to make it way easy to go see the excellent comedy you (we) love, Bumbershoot comedy is better than ever. I am so jazzed to be working here this year for it. I’ll just see you there. Because my job is THE BEST.

Please tell me Zach Galifianakis didn’t cancel. Please tell me this is some kind of cruel joke. The Festival is in 9 days, Seriously!! The only way I’ll be happy is if you replace him with David Cross or Patton Oswalt.

I know it stinks that Zach won’t be there, but there’s plenty of great local comedy to see at the Vera Stage . . .check it out!

Who is replacing Zach? Why hasn’t there been anyone announced yet?
