I Met My Man-Crush!
Part of my job at Bumbershoot was to be a stage escort for the out-of-the-way sanctuary of softness that was the Wells Fargo Stage in the Northwest Court. It was very nice to head out there every now and then, make sure everything was working out well (since I would totally be able to fix any problem going on, and not just frantically yell into my radio and wave my arms like a maniac at the slightest hint of trouble) and enjoy some relaxing jams by the likes of Final Fantasy (who was absolutely mesmerizing!), Arthur & Yu, and of course, my man-crush, Sondre Lerche.
My job was going to be watching Sondre Lerche. (That is the best job ever.) So imagine my surprise when my list of duties came to me Monday morning, and I found a particularly interesting addendum to my normally sleepy stage; at 7:15 someone would be interviewing the young Mr. Lerche, and I would be escorting them. I steadied my hands, looked around to make sure nobody had seen my eyes go all kinds of crazy when I read this tidbit, and went back to work to wait for my time to shine.
So eventually 7:15 rolls around, and, after reassuring myself that I would not, in fact, do something dorky like ask for an autograph while working, I made my way towards the stage. I stumbled backstage and there he was… as though there was some kind of light shining from behind him while he ate ham from his deli plate… it was wonderful.
After nervously introducing myself, I walked him down to the press room for his interview, clad in dark glasses and a fedora to keep people from recognizing him in all his blond-haired, blue-eyed Nordic glory (seriously, so pretty). We blasted through the crowds while having a little chat, and you know what? He is so freaking nice, I couldn’t even believe it. He called me by my name (I don’t know what else he would call me (maybe “boy”), but still!) we talked about his indie popularity in the States, and I told him he is awesome. All in all, it was just another Monday for Sondre, and it was one of the best moments of my summer.
So the interview went off without a hitch, Sondre made it to his show and played a beautiful set, and Bumbershoot made one of my dreams come true. Just standard operating procedure.
