blog Uniting Cultures Across Borders: The Seattle-Moscow Poster Show
The culmination of Daniel Smith’s cross-cultural poster shows is here! Having already traveled to Cuba and Iran for his last two shows, curator Daniel Smith took his third and final search for artists and graphic designers to Moscow, Russia. The exhibition pairs posters created by Moscow-based and Seattle-based designers in an attempt to break down stereotypes on either side and encourage simple acts of citizen-to-citizen diplomacy through the arts. Established and young talents from both cities are represented in the curator’s selections, and influences range from graffiti to avant garde and everything in between. The Seattle-Moscow Poster Show unites these cities by recognizing the shared cultural themes of music, film, theatre, and contemporary art and the importance of poster art as cultural expression.
The full Seattle-Moscow Poster Show begins with the free public preview of Bumbershoot’s Visual Arts exhibits on Friday, September 4th from 12pm-7pm. Wanna get an early partial sneak peak? Check out the Curator’s Preview at the Adobe Conference Center in Fremont on Thursday September 3rd. For more information and tickets to this lecture and slideshow visit the American Institute of Graphic Arts Seattle Chapter’s website.
Get connected, then head over to Seattle Center’s Northwest Rooms to check out the debut of The Seattle-Moscow Poster Show at Bumbershoot over Labor Day weekend.
