Fresh Green
Power
If you’re checking out a show on Bumbershoot’s Mainstage, rest easy knowing that the sound and lights are powered up with waste-based bio-diesel generators. All of the other Bumbershoot venues rely on the already carbon neutral energy provider, Seattle City Light. (Our refrigerator trucks that source the food supplies for your next Festival meal have also switched to biodiesel blends or clean power from Seattle City Light.)
Biodiesel
Bumbershoot uses biodiesel from a local Seattle-based company that specializes in recycling waste vegetable oil and turning it into biodiesel and biodiesel-petroleum blends for use in engines, generators, and furnaces. The choice of using a local business that provides a cleaner waste-sourced energy was clear, especially given the growing concerns around other types of bio-fuels (ethanol, etc.) and their impact on our global food supply.
Clean Power
Created by the citizens of Seattle, Seattle City Light has a long history in providing clean renewable power to Seattle and neighboring suburbs (since 1905!) Most (95%) of the Seattle City Light power is from carbon neutral, renewable sources. For non-renewable fuel, Seattle City Light has contracts to offset the greenhouse gas emissions, reaching its “net zero” goal.
Solar Power
Did you know that the Northwest Rooms (home to Bumbershoot’s visual arts exhibits) get power directly from the sun? A trip through the Festival’s visual arts exhibits can be thought provoking and illuminating, thanks to the exhibit creators. But, for the actual illumination of the rooms, we give thanks to the sun.
