Greening Bumbershoot

Printed Material

In 2008, Bumbershoot continued to limit the number of Festival programs printed for on-site distribution. Since 2006, Bumbershoot has printed 50% fewer programs, and has reduced the program’s size by 60%, therefore using 80% less paper.

Additionally, the Festival’s advance brochure (including a schedule and map) has been printed in smaller quantities. This effort equated to a 28% reduction in paper used for the 2008 brochures.

Bumbershoot tickets are printed with soy inks, and the Festival’s Mainstage passes (required for entrance into evening Mainstage performances) are printed with soy inks on 30% post-consumer recycled paper.

Festival programs and brochures are printed on FSC-certified mixed sources paper coming from well-managed forests, controlled sources and recycled wood or fiber.

FSC-certified

Forest Stewardship Council is a non-profit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world’s forests. Products carrying the FSC label are independently certified to assure consumers that they come from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.

Eco Extra: According to a 2005 report released by the Brazilian Environmental Ministry, loggers, ranchers, and farmers in the Amazon rainforest cleared over 10,000 square miles—roughly the size of Massachusetts—of rainforest during a 12-month span.
