Pitchfork has all the info on the new Modest Mouse single, “Satellite Skin”. MM fans can either pick up one of 4000 vinyl copies or snag the new tune (and b-side “Guilty Cocker Spaniel”) on iTunes May 26.
The Palm Beach Pulse recaps the recent SunFest performance from reggae/rap pioneers Sly & Robbie:
Hearing these two at the Coors Light stage on Saturday, along with a veteran crew of musicians around them, you come to the realization that not only would there be a very different sound to reggae without them, there also might be no Sublime, no Pepper, no Slightly Stoopid. There might also not be the trend in rap of singers putting up the hooks for MCs to build their rhymes.
“The music is a sonic milkshake, a genre blending, culture-defying laser show. Synths, raps, explosive hooks, colorful bridges, sailboats, inspiration.” That’s Iglu & Hartly describing the sound of their debut album & Then Boom, streaming in its entirety over on imeem.
Eleni Mandell details her favorite book for Largehearted Boy as part of the Book Notes series, featuring “musicians discussing their literary side.”
And finally, Publisher’s Weekly recaps author S.E. Hinton’s recent appearance at the L.A. Times Festival:
Relationships and personal awareness are both key to Hintonâs work. She wrote The Outsiders because at the time there was nothing in literature that captured the essence of teenagers and their angst and motivations. âI write from my subconscious. Then people write to tell me what my books are about, which I never realize at the time,â she joked.
