links Today's Fresh Links: MSTRKRFT, Dead Confederate, Extra Golden, and The Cave Singers
And POP dives into the MSTRKRFT’s similarities and differences to other musical processes, and notes their ultimate goal is to make you ‘work’ your moves on the dance floor.
âThatâs an experience very different from other types of music. It has an express purpose. Itâs right in the name, itâs there for dancing. If thatâs not accomplished, then itâs a failure,â Keeler says. âNo amount of press or publicity or whatever can make people do anything on the dance floor than they would with their feet as itâs happening. People donât dance with a sense of obligation.â
Extra Golden make happy music but explains to Tiny Mix Tapes there’s real cultural depth to their sound.
“Itâs pretty interesting, actually; the style of music that the Kenyans play is all in major chords. The subject matter that theyâre singing about is not necessarily positive or optimistic. But because they use those types of chords, to someone like you or me â a Westerner â we associate it with happiness, like beach music or something.”
Strange Glue posted some photos of The Cave Singers from their set at ATP Vs The Fans Part II: The Fans Strike Back.
Dead Confederate enjoy electronica music but that’s not the kind of music they make. So they want you to make it for them. Laptop Rockers is holding a contest for a remixed version of the band’s hit “The Rat.”
