Bumbershoot's visual arts
What's cooler than over 250 scheduled events in 20 unique venues? The fact that Bumbershoot is WAY more than performances on stages! Duh. There's no such thing as down time at Bumbershoot, friends. Here is more bad-ass stuff you can pack into your Labor Day weekend, letting you walk away each night feeling totally cultured:
The Seattle-Tehran Poster Show
Some of Iran's top graphic artists (never before exhibited in the U.S.) will join local Seattle talent to showcase posters sharing cultural themes like music, film, theatre and contemporary art.
One Pot in Residence
One Pot will use a 40' table, meals and multimedia content to look at the legacy of the 1968 youth revolution that swept the globe.
Drawing Jam
Always wanted to go to art school? Join the Gage Academy of Art for a 3-day "Drawing Jam"—complete with figure models, celebrity appearances, artist demonstrations and free art supplies.
The Power of One
A massive photo and multimedia exhibit by Benham Gallery exploring the ways a single individual can make an impact in society.
Grand Openings
The Henry Art Gallery Satellite presents contemporary performance art through multiple video programs and live performance. The exhibit's highlight is Grand Openings (NYC), who create one-of-a-kind immersive, participatory events.
And On the Festival Grounds…
Bumbershoot visual arts explode around the grounds, including a "Bottle House", huge "face-in-the-crowd" photographs, live portrait drawing, the "Cultivation Utility Vehicle", performance by Portland's Hand2Mouth, plus everyone's friend Little Roy and the Artist Advice Booth.
Bumbershoot Fine Arts Poster
Every year the Festival produces the Bumbershoot Fine Arts Poster highlighting artwork by a regional emerging artist. Bumbershoot is proud to announce we've selected "Qoaxqoaxualanuxsiwae" by Seattle artist Alan Hurley. The Fine Arts Poster and Bumbershoot's visual arts exhibits are made possible by the Mayor's Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs.
P.S. On Friday, August 29, Bumbershoot will once again host the 2008 Mayor's Arts Awards. In celebration, the visual arts exhibits will be open and free to the public from noon to 8pm. The Mayor's Arts Awards are presented by the Mayor's Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs in partnership with Bumbershoot, and are sponsored by _City Arts Seattle_, a city magazine discovering creativity throughout Seattle.
When the exhibits close at 8pm, Bumbershoot will kick off the 1 Reel Film Festival early with a free special screening of award winning shorts from around the world. Stay tuned for more info about reserving your place at this special event.
