Okay…so we’ve got Black Eyed Peas and the Knux filling in two of the five open mainstage slots. Fair enough, ReelOne does need to sell tix, especially in light of the current economic meltdown, etc. But, is there any chance at all that even one of the remaining slots will be filled by an edgy act? Remember in the past when the Pixies, Stooges, or even Mudhoney were mainstage acts? Speaking of Mudhoney, whatever happened to locals night at the mainstage anyway?

although I’m not a fan of stooges or mudhoney i completely agree with cluster duck. what happened bumbershoot? apart from modest mouse all of the main stage acs are just boring. i realize u need to make money but the faithful returning fans need something to look forward to. even the small stages are weak this year. i don’t mean to be pessimistic but you gotta meet me half way!

Couldn’t agree more with ClusterDuck and Evan.
How about a new and fresh acts on the main stage? BEP, Sheryl Crow? Come on, how about a band from this decade??
    No edge whatsoever…

MissRiddle is right…give us somebody from the 21st century, ok? How’s about Animal Collective, M. Ward, or Yo La Tengo (ok…YLT are definitely 20th cent. players but STILL relevant)? Or if you’ve gotta book a capital M major act…I could probably deal with Arcade Fire or something along those lines.

As for the smaller stages, I’m pretty happy with Gang Gang Dance, Akron/Family, Raphael Saadiq, Os Mutantes (especially!), Metric, De La Soul, Todd Barry, Mirah, The Minus 5, Vivian Girls, Roy Ayers, Eugene Mirman, David Cross, and Doug Benson. So, it’s not like I won’t show up because I don’t approve of the mainstage booking.
But, c’mon, I’ve been coming to this event for over a decade and the past two years (with the exception of an afternoon show w/ Neko Case), I’ve completely avoided the mainstage. The mainstage booking used to be the prime attraction for traveling from Portland to Seattle for the weekend. I was sad enough when Bumbershoot was reduced to a 3 day event. Now I’m left wondering if I’ll ever be as excited for the “big” acts as in years past. Pretty underwhelming.

I happen to LIKE BEP and in fact I’m THRILLED to hear they will be at Bumbershoot! In fact, it’s the only reason I’m going and the only reason I’ve ever been so far.

Aundreya only proved evan and clusterducks point to be true. this is her first time ever going and its to see some shitty main stream “band”. lets get some stuff for the returning faithfuls.

“band” implying that they’re more of a hollywood performance group than an actual talented band made of musicians.

I agree with Lorenzo what happened to good bands that kept me coming back year after year. I don’t really want to spend the money seeing bands with singles such as “boom boom pow”…..
