Joss Stone does it. So does Lupe Fiasco. Heck, even the squeaky clean John Legend does it. That’s right, they all blog! It’s the internet craze that’s sweeping the…internet. So if you’ve got a blog and are writing about this year’s Bumbershoot Festival, we want to share it with the masses. Just send us the link and we’ll post it on our website where millions of people (or at least a couple dozen) will read it each day. No, it’s not a contest and you won’t be winning tickets to a sunny destination, but you still might want to put on sunscreen because you’ll be getting some serious exposure. So load up your laptops, calibrate your keyboards, and start blogging!

06.13.2007 Roky Erickson Film - Showing in August!
Beside the long awaited Roky Erickson and The Explosives
show at Bumbershoot (Monday September 3), there will also be a showing of a new documentary on Roky’s life a few days before! Here’s some info:
August 24-30, Fri – Thurs at 7 & 9:15 PM (plus Sat & Sun at 3 & 5 PM) at Northwest Film Forum (1515 12th Ave., Seattle).
Keven McAlester says of his award winning documentary, “I started out thinking I was making One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, but I ended up with something more like Being There.” Shot by cinematographer Lee Daniel (_Slacker_, Dazed and Confused, Before Sunset), the film tells the story of Austinite Roky Erickson, undeniably one of the greatest singer-songwriter, guitar player and harmonica-wailers of all time, and Janis Joplin’s chief influence. The singer and founding member of the 13th Floor Elevators was talented but unpredictable. After entering an insanity plea in 1969 for a marijuana arrest, Roky was sent to a mental hospital for three years where he was surrounded by the worst violent and mentally ill criminals. To the great dismay of his fans, he became a recluse. Featuring interviews with Billy Gibbons, Thurston Moore, and Patti Smith, You’re Gonna Miss Me is a devastating exploration of the life of one of rock’s most infamously tragic figures.

Maybe you’ll create a micro-documentary, an old-fashioned song and dance routine or an animated short. Or if you’re feeling really ambitious, you might turn out a full-blown production complete with mind-bending plot twists and a surprise ending. Whatever it is, we want to see it and we want you to share it.

Competition, the Pacific Northwest’s largest battle of the bands for musicians under 21. That’s right, they may be able to rattle off an awe-inspiring performance, but you still can’t buy them a drink after the show. The finals will take place Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Experience Music Project’s Sky Church venue, with three young bands vying for a coveted spot on the 2007 Bumbershoot lineup.

02.20.2007 The New Look of Bumbershoot
Bumbershoot: Seattle's Music & Arts Festival is unveiling its new look with the launch of the 2007 Festival website! When the '06 Festival wrapped, we went right to work plotting and scheming an original and fresh look for the next Labor Day extravaganza. To that end, we scoured the Pacific Northwest for an artist with a truly distinctive style, a sense of humor, and as much passion for Bumbershoot as we have. We are happy to announce we found the talented and slightly warped Dan Stiles, and today reveal his "City Comes Alive" artwork online, with more website features, killer merch, and other goodies to be released over the next few months.
