07.06.2008 Stereogum previews Beck's new album
Stereogum prematurely evaluates Beck’s Tuesday release Modern Guilt, and lo and behold, they dig it, especially the “instant classic” opening four songs (“Orphans,” “Gammy Ray,” “Chemtrails” and the title track, “Modern Guilt”).
The fact that Beck can still parallel his highest moments eight LPs in as strong a testament to his enduring genius that we could ask for.

06.16.2008 Man Man's New Record Scores Rave Review
Pitchfork Media gave Man Man’s new record, Rabbit Habits, a gushing review. Check it out!
There’s a tendency for a band’s maturation to deep-six most their unqiue tics, but Man Man pull a Houdini by releasing an album that simultaneously showcases them at their most cogent and carefree.

06.12.2008 Jakob Dylan's New Record Gets a Warm Reception
Check out the 8/10 score Jakob Dylan’s new album “Seeing Things” got in a recent PopMatters review.
[Producer Rick] Rubin, who has found his niche in the last decade-and-change reinventing the sounds of such legendary music icons as Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Donavan and Neil Diamond, takes the same approach he took on Cashâs American Recordings series with Seeing Things, bringing Dylanâs voice up front with very minimal musical accompaniment so as to keep the lyrics the main focal point. And lyrically, this is clearly Jakobâs strongest material to date.

06.12.2008 Anti-Flag: Popmatters concert review
Popmatters reviews Anti-Flag’s April show at San Francisco’s Fillmore.
The one-two closing punch of âDie for Your Government>Power to the Peacefulâ puts an appropriate stamp on the night with another raging anti-war screed followed by a call to arms for non-violent revolution… Itâs not one of the longer sets seen at the Fillmore this year, but itâs certainly one of the most intense and most political.

Here, dance not only dominates. It does what it has done since time immemorial: It expresses what words cannot. That Twist can wrap his puppet in shades of meaning seems an act of considerable genius.

05.07.2008 Recapping Blitzen Trapper at El Mocambo

They seem to know just how good they are, and revel in their tightness, their intensity, and their passion. At the same time, thereâs nothing even remotely arrogant about them. This is a live act itâs hard not to enjoy.
