ReadyMade's MacGyver Challenge,
Presented by Bumbershoot
Winner: Ranbir Bains of Burnaby, BC
We presented BumberFans with the MacGyver Challenge: CD Jewel Cases, and they delivered! From mini shrines to beautiful lamps, it was a tough call… but the ReadyMade judges found the clean, functional design of this clock "impressive," and we agree! Kudos to you, Ranbir.
INGREDIENTS:
- 16 CD jewel cases
- 1 poster shipping tube with lids (4" diameter or larger)
- 1 miniDisc
- Adhesive Velcro
- Clock kit
TOOLS:
- Utility knife
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Tailor's tape measure
- Strong glue (ie. Crazy Glue, Weldbond)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Remove the inner disc holders from the jewel cases.
- Using the utility knife, cut the poster tube to 5 5/8" in length.
- Glue two jewel cases to one another, halfway across the backside of the case. Repeat this three more times to three other pairs of jewel cases.
- Use the tape measure and pencil to evenly mark out the placement of the twelve hours of the clock around the tube.
- Glue the jewel cases around the tube at the marks, affixing the four pairs of glued cases at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. Orient the cases so the spines of the cases create the clock front. Allow it to dry well.
- Glue the miniDisc to the face of the clock mechanism.
- Assemble the clock parts.
- Affix one side of a strip of adhesive Velcro to the back of the clock mechanism and the other Velcro piece to the poster lid. Sink the clock mechanism into the Velcro in the lid. Put the lid on the tube to complete the clock face.
- Hang your clock.
